Polish Language Learning

The Ocalenie Foundation runs free, stationary Polish language courses for foreigners in Warsaw. Classes are held at the Foundation’s office at ul. Jagiellońska 74 (Praga-Północ) from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Each lesson lasts 75-90 minutes.

Enrollment for Polish language courses will take place between 3-5.06.2024.

All adult foreigners living in Warsaw can apply for the course. Refugees, asylum seekers, immigrants from outside of the European Union, and students continuing learning with us have priority, but everyone is welcome.

Our approach is communicative language teaching (CLT). We want the people coming to Poland and planning to stay here for longer to be able to communicate in the Polish language as soon as possible.

We teach at the beginner level. Currently, the most advanced language level you can achieve while studying with us corresponds to A2 on the CEFR scale (Elementary).

Our teachers are volunteers – they do not receive any payment for their work. Usually they are not professional teachers of Polish as a second language, but each of them has gone through a training provided by Ocalenie Foundation staff.

Enrollment for Polish language courses will take place between 3-5.06.2024.

Enrollment consists of filling in a form and a Polish language test on the website.

We organise four trimesters a year: January–March, April–June, July–September and October–December.

The lessons are conducted twice a week (between Monday to Friday) and each takes 75-90 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have morning, afternoon and evening classes. The earliest class starts at 9:00 and the last finishes at 19:00.

The days and hours of the classes are determined only after the application period and depend on the availability of the volunteer teachers. In the form we ask you to choose all times that you are available to participate in class – we advise you to choose as many as you can, since it will allow us to find a suitable group for you.

You can participate in one group’s classes only, during set days and hours. If you cannot arrange your schedule to attend the classes regularly, we will not be able to invite you to the course.

There is a placement test inside the application form. It is crucial that you write the test by yourself (i.e. without checking the answers online), as its results allow us to determine which group will be the most suitable for you.

We do not have exam preparation courses at the moment.

As we are not a language school, we do not organise the certification exams, and we do not have the rights to issue a language certificate. We can give you a statement confirming the participation in the language course upon request.

Our courses are stationary and we run them only in Warsaw. We invite people who will be able to come for lessons twice a week to our headquarters.

Other branches of the Ocalenie Foundation run stationary courses in Łódź and Łomża.

Each group consists of 12 people max.

Please note that by applying you are declaring your willingness to participate in a course. Applying for a course does not guarantee a place in a language group. The groups are formed only on the basis of the data collected during registration (such as language level and time availability of students and teachers). All candidates for the Polish course are welcome, but as the course is free of charge, we receive a lot of applications and unfortunately we have to refuse many people.

If you want to continue studying with us, you need to fill the application form again during the application period.
