Wiedza do Potęgi - educational support for youth via tutoring program.
ince 2018 Ocalenie Foundation has been running a scholarship-tutoring program for children and youth with refugee life experience. The project is carried in cooperation with our strategic partner, the BNP Paribas Foundation, which has been co-financing it from the very beginning of its implementation, ensuring its stability and development opportunities.
The second part of the 4th edition of the “Wiedza do Potęgir” (school year 2021/22) and the first part of the 5th edition (school year 2022/23) are co-financed as part of the cash donation of the BNP Paribas Foundation.
We pursue the goal of equalizing educational opportunities of children and youth with refugee experience and prevent them from pre-school leaving. We pursue it through support in education, joint cultural and educational outings as well as study and social scholarships. Active support in studying is provided by specially trained volunteers (tutors). Children enrolled can attend sessions with their tutors once or twice a week. Each also may apply for the scholarship support of PLN 5,000. which is granted for the duration of the school year, which may help cover basic educational needs and school fees.
During the 2022/2023 school year, 100 children have joined the program. 32 of them receive scholarships.
In 2022, a donation from the BNP Paribas Foundation enabled partially finance key elements of the program like:
- salary/remuneration for the program coordinators and a team of trained specialists of educational support who work directly with children, their parents, tutors, and sometimes also cooperate with educational institutions i.e. the school that the child is attending.
- additional activities, outings and trips for program participants
- communication and fundraising costs, which enabled programs self promotion and as a consequence of being a part of its fundraising activities, contributed to the further development and search for other sources of funding for the program.
