Refugees Welcome Poland
Integrative and housing support for individual adults
In the Refugees Welcome Poland program, we support people with refugee experience in the integration process and in finding a room to rent in Warsaw.
Participants in the RWP program come from different parts of the world. As a rule, they are individual adults—we do not accept large families into the program, although sometimes a participant may be a single parent with a child or a couple.
The program operates in Warsaw and the surrounding area. It provides support in two different areas that are important for people seeking international protection or who have been granted such protection:
- housing
- integration, related to learning about Polish culture and the Polish language.
Refugees can count on the support of Polish volunteers who help them learn Polish. They also have access to specialized, free services provided by the Ocalenie Foundation: consultations with career counselors, Polish language courses, psychological and legal support, and the care of cultural mentors. We organize regular integration meetings for all participants in the program and volunteers.
Our activities are aimed at helping participants in the program build a new, good life in Poland.
Program rules
- The Refugees Welcome program is open to people who have been granted the following in Poland: refugee status, asylum, subsidiary protection, temporary protection, residence permit on humanitarian grounds, residence permit for tolerated persons, or who are awaiting a decision on granting them protection. We do not accept people with UKR status.
- The program helps participants rent a room in a Polish family’s home in Warsaw or the surrounding area at a below-market price for a period of 3 to 12 months. If there are no rooms available in our database and we have the financial resources, we can subsidize the first month of long-term rent at market price.
- The program is LGBT+ friendly; we do not tolerate discrimination against anyone for any reason.
- We try to provide each person participating in the program with the support of a volunteer who helps them learn Polish.
How to apply for the program?
We conduct recruitment several times a year, depending on the availability of accommodation.
When we open recruitment, the application form will be published on the foundation’s website and announced in the news section.
